Suffice to say I was indeed “blindsided” by this one. I put off reading this for so long, thinking that it’s another angst-filled, trying-too-hard-to-be-poignant young adult fiction. I judged the book by its cover; guilty as charged. It has been on my “recommended” reads for so long, and Amazon.com even sweetened the deal by making it only $0.99, such a steal. I should’ve trusted the good ratings, stupid me. It’s not as hilarious as my beloved “Flat-out Love”, but it didn’t disappoint. It was laugh-out-loud funny, very touching, and shamelessly romantic in all the right moments. Maybe the romance was laid on a bit thick, but the characters were wonderful and adorable. I always love it when there’s a cast of hilariously crazy, lovingly protective family. Overall, it’s much more of a love story than an in-depth journey of a person whose sight was suddenly taken away, but I think I liked it just the way it is. The drama and emotional baggages were, I think, given in just the right doses. I’d say this book deserves to be bound and sold in bookstores much more compared to quite a few other books (especially paranormal romance) out there today.
